Somari was an incredibly clever
pirate hack that stole
sprites and
artwork from both
Sega's
Sonic the Hedgehog game, and
Super Mario Brothers 3. It had gameplay similar to
Sonic, with music and everything. This is arguably one of the best hacks out of
Hong Kong.
Classicgaming.com featured it as one of its
Game of the Week titles a year or so ago.
The hack is
complete, even with similar title screen and music, right down to "Somari Team Presents" (instead of "
Sonic Team Presents"). Quite excellent, and almost even fun. Original copies of the game are quite
rare, I have heard, but it is floating about on the net in
ROM format for
download and use in your favorite
emulator.
