Sonia is the name of the rather morose-sounding device that announces the stations on the London Underground (tube). According to one Jubilee line driver, "We call her Sonia, because she gets sonia nerves."

Actually, I loathe Sonia. Her miserable robotic voice manages to ensure that I feel like a crushed bug at the beginning and end of every day. I'm sure London could transform into a orgiastic city of joy, if Sonia would just cheer up!

Well, at least she speaks clearly.
