Official name for a
basque town 20
km north of
Bilbao. Sopelana is know for excellent
surfing beaches, the main two being
Larrabasterra and Sopelana beach.
The town has approx. 5000 inhabitants, and the traditional fiestas are in early / mid july. Sopelana is also one of the towns in the EU with youngest population, much due to the surfing conditions. The main hangout for surfers and youth is Golfo Norte bar, near the cheap accomodations.
