Southern Gospel

Southern Gospel music is basically Christian country music, with emphasis on uplifting melodies, high to low range harmonies and catchy choruses.

The Gaither Vocal Band, featuring songwriter Bill Gaither, Guy Penrod, and sometimes comedian, Mark Lowry have made this music more recently popular with his Homecoming video series.

Many of these groups are all family members, passing down the musical tradition through many generations: note the Carter Family from where Johnny Cash's wife, June, hails.

"One Day at a Time" was a crossover song, heard on Popular music stations, and even Kris Kristofferson wrote, "Help Me Make it Through the Night."
