Starting out as little more than a gimmick trio in the land of Sub Pop grunge, the Spinanes became one of the most interesting, nervy, and oddly enough, rocking bands of the 90's.

Originally, the Spinanes were little more than guitarist Rebecca Gates and drummer Jim Plouf. They recorded a few vinyl singles and their debut, Manos, all droning riffs, guitar blasts and occasional pop harmonies.

In 1996, Jim Plouf left the band right after the release of Strand, arguably, their most creative album, expanding their instrumental palette and song structures. The band played on though, in 1998, releasing Arches and Aisles, which was more of the same, although considerably more refined and listenable. In mid-2000, the band released Imp Years, a collection of early singles.
