Similar to a localized geek dialect, but used by a much larger population segment, and thus much more standarized.

A standard geek dialect is also similar to an industry standard - there are certain accepted phrases and certain buzzwords that are used by those that speak, write, or understand the dialect. One interesting phenominon of the SGD is the "Pronunciation Artifact Syndrome", which affects the LGD to a lesser extent due to the rarity of LGD users meeting in a real life situation.

SGDs usually revolve around large, multi-faceted communities such as the gaming community, the open source community, and the overclocking community. This is a marked contrast to LGDs which typically are spawned by much smaller communities such as lanparties, websites, forums, newsgroups, quake clans, bulliten board systems, and user groups.
