Probably the most powerful small-arm ever made. This was an experimental sniper rifle made by Steyr-Mannlicher GmbH for sniping against vulnerable high tech tagets, such as aircraft, radar, and fuel dumps (AMR stood for Anti-Material Rifle sic.). It fired a 36g, 5.5mm tungsten fin-stabilised flechette, at a muzzle velocity of 1500m/s, (4920 fps). This flechette had a muzzle enery of 40500J, about twice that of a .50 cal It had an effective range of 1500-2000m against soft targets (radar etc.) and could penetrate 40 mm of armour steel at 800m. It was never taken up for military use due to its impracticality and expense
