A bait used when fishing for catfish. As the name implies, stink bait can be stinky. It's made from blood, liver, and spoiled cheese (Limburger seems to be preferred). Various animal brains can be added to the mix or substituted for liver. If that's not bad enough, the concoction is fermented for over month. A cotton ball, sponge, or rubber lure is typically dipped into the stink bait and then placed on a hook. Despite the nasty smell, catfish are drawn to stink bait like sharks to chum. Catfish, being bottom feeders, have a keen sense of smell that lets them smell bits of rotting flesh amongst the muck of the river floor. The stink bait brings them running.
