An album on Blue Note Records containing the songs sampled for Us3's album Hand on the Torch. Includes Herbie Hancock's "Canteloupe Island", which was sampled heavily in the making of the well-known Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia).

Straight, No Chaser
Composer: Thelonious Monk

A jazz standard in the key of F. The chord changes are a modified Blues form. The melody is based around long chromatic runs, typical of Thelonious Monk's composition style. This tune is best-known from Monk's album of the same name but another definitive version is by the Miles Davis Quintet of the late 50s on the Milestones album.

A classic jazz album by Thelonious Monk.

  • Straight, No Chaser is my favorite jazz album of all time, and Monk is at his absolute best. Monk's recordings happened to coincide with having his portrait grace the cover of Time Magazine. Only five jazz musicians have ever been on the cover of Time.
