A pre-bop jazz classic written by Nat King Cole, Straighten Up And Fly Right is an allegory about race relations in the United States. The vulture symbolizes the white man, who swoops down and grabs an unsuspecting monkey in its talons and soars high into the air. The monkey, or black man suspects the vulture is going to drop it, so its skull will crack open and the vulture can eat its brains, so the monkey starts strangling the vulture. The vulture says, "If you strangle me, I'll fall from the sky and we'll both die. Let go and I will set you free." The monkey doesn't believe this and holds on. Will the pair make it safely to the ground? That depends on their trust in each other.
