After some rigorous investigation, the EBMA (European Bandwidth Monitoring Association) discovered the following alarming facts:

  • 99% of forwarded email tends to be the headers of the last 500 people that got the same mail.
  • 45% of the HTML in web pages is superfluous
  • 22% of URLs are waaay longer than they need to be (http://www.myserver.com/sections/news/financial/march/22/protests_in_east_timor.html)

    It may seem like small amounts of bits and bytes, but once they are added up, they have the same effect as lard has on your arteries: They clog up the Internet, adding more delay to the transmission of important information.
