A T1 also called a DS1 is composed of 24 Telco channels (or DS0's). It runs 1.544 Mb/s . It's considered large bandwidth but in the scheme of things it's not a lot...It just costs a lot, especially from AT&T, MCI, Sprint, and other bandwidth bandits.

Among the family of the T2, T3, and T4 Internet Connection fold. Each progressively fatter, but Allah be praised that it's always on unlike those pesky dial-ups.

The spec dictates speeds up to 1,536,000 bits/second - but there have been hacks to add a couple of hundred thousand bits/s (not fowl duplex, argh!).
