TG4 Irish language TV station

Launched in October 1996 as Teilifís na Gaeilge, TG4's brief is to broadcast orginal Irish programming to around 700,000 viewers a day throughout Ireland. It is largely successful in this - transmitting for 11 hours daily, with around 6 hours being produced in the Irish tongue.
Its output includes drama, children's programming, news, sports and its own soap series, Ros na Rún. Using services provided by RTÉ, Ireland's national broadcaster, and funded in part by the Government, its importance is such that the Good Friday Agreement includes statements of intent to extend the TG4 signal throughout Northern Ireland.
It is seen as being an important weapon in the battle to maintain the pride of the people in the Irish language and culture, and to help a new generation to gain the same respect for their Gaelic roots. "TG4 is not only holding its own but continuing to improve its share and position. Our peak-time share for adults is edging ever nearer 2.5%."
