Tammuz is also sort of the prototype of christ. He is the living reincarnation of his father, Nimrod (founder of Babylon) who impregnates Ishtar after his (Nimrod's) death, and his birth is a virgin birth. Drinking Tammuz's blood and eating his flesh were the rituals by which he was remembered and worshipped.
