"Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for a lifetime."

It is in the spirit of this old proverb, that Petri Hawkins-Byrd, the Bailiff for Judge Judy created a program called "Teach Them to Fish."

The purpose of this program is to help young people develop their mental, spiritual, physical and social selves.

Officer Byrd says that in order to become productive adults, children need guidance and nurturing in all areas of development. Taking this message to heart, the program recruits experts in various fields to conduct workshops to help the kids gain valuable knowledge in these four areas. Volunteers are also requested to provide the participants of this program with one physical or practical resource and one literary resource.

The ultimate goal of this program is to assist in developing these young people into positive and productive contributors to society.
