These are the months of the year:

Once you know the month of the year, that will give you a rough idea of what season you are in.
la primavera | el verano | el otoño | el invierno
Therefore, today would be 12 de diciembre de 2008. Isn't that nutty?

What hour indeed? Is it de la mañana, de la tarde, or de la noche? Pick the hour:
uno | dos | tres | cuatro | cinco
| seis | siete | ocho | nueve | diez
| once | doce
If the hour is exactly 12 it is either medianoche or mediodía. If it is any other hour, you say:
Es la una: It is one.
Son las dos: It is two.
Son las siete: It is seven.
After one, the verb and the article go plural.
If it is after the hour and before the half hour, you just tack on y and the number of minutes.
Son las cinco y doce: It is 5:12
Son las ocho y veintinueve: It is 8:29. A minute later, it will be
Son las ocho y media: It is 8:30. Media is used to indicate the half hour.
Son las ocho y cuarto: It is 8:15. Cuarto is used to indicate the quarter hour.
After the half hour, you name the next hour, and subtract:
Son las diez menos veinte: It is 9:40.
¿Qué hora es?
Son las tres menos veintiuno de la mañana.
It is 2:39 AM.
