Along with an installation guide and a horrendously overblown audiocassette tape containing backstory, The Book of
Patterns was a classy prop included in the box to the classic PC video game
Loom. It was used as a guide to the
drafts (spells)
Bobbin Threadbare would encounter over the course of the game, with blank spaces for the player to write down the notation of the spells they found accompanying descriptions and clever faux-
woodcut illustrations.
All of the following drafts (and many of their converse drafts) are present in the game (and thus, in the Book):
Dyeing, Emptying, Healing, Invisibility, Night Vision, Opening, Reflection, Shaping, Sharpening, Silence, Sleep, Straw Into Gold, Terror, Transcendence, Twisting and Unmaking.
