An off-Broadway play by Jack Gelber, from the tail end of the Eisenhower years; it was produced by the avant-garde Living Theater. Eight heroin addicts - four of them musicians - wait around for their "connection" to show up. Freddie Redd, an NYC jazz pianist exiled for lack of a cabaret card, got an acting gig and ended up writing a score. Jackie McLean and Archie Shepp also had roles during its run. There was eventually an LP of Redd's music, and a film adaptation of the play.
