A series of purges from 1934 to 1938 in the Soviet Union. Stalin had anyone he saw as opposing him killed. "Class enemies" included leaders of the Bolshevik Revolution with whom he had worked two decades earlier (Although his role in the October Revolution was rewriten once he took power to make it look like he actually did something). The trials of well known class enemies were televised. Some were coerced (by intimidation and torture) into making false confessions and then sentenced to life imprisonment or death. 300,000 were killed, and 7 million placed in labor camps.
