The movie "The House of Yes" is based on a
play of the same name. It stars
Parker Posey, the queen of indie movies, as Jackie-O. Jackie is mildly
crazy, and has a strange fixation with Jackie Onassis. The plot focuses on
Thanksgiving at the family home, when Jackie's brother Marty (Josh Hamilton) returns from
college for the holiday dinner, and brings a "friend". The friend turns out to be his fiance Lesly, played by
Tori Spelling. Jackie's other brother Anthony (Freddie Prinze Jr.) ends up slightly
obsessed with Lesly, and by the next morning,
everything is completely crazy.
This movie is dark and rather creepy at times. The performance by Parker Posey is well done. You want to like and loathe Jackie all at once. At times, the dialogue of the characters sounds stilted and dry, as though they are just reading and speaking the lines, not acting them, especially the scenes between Anthony and Lesly. There are also hilariously funny moments in the movie, which add to its insane charm.
I would give this movie 3 and a half out of 5 stars.
