A series of educational movies that featured inner city children dealing with situations that were difficult for educators to explain to children about without context. Some examples include :
I was in grade 1 when I first saw The Kids of Degrassi Street. I remember sitting on the floor of my classroom picking staples out of the carpet and watching my teacher wrestle with a stubborn projector.

Considering that it was produced in Canada during the late 1970s and early 80s when the quality of Canadian film was worse than imaginable, Degrassi was very popular among guidance counselors and teachers when they chose their curriculum. Students remembered the values and characters in the movies and the series was eventually spun off to two TV Shows, Degrassi Jr. High and then Degrassi High.
