US president Clinton plays the saxophone in a small way (very small), and he's apparently a bit of a jazz fan. Therefore, at his first inauguration, early in 1993, an MTV reporter (anybody recall who?) asked him who his favorite jazz musician was. Clinton replied, "Thelonious Monk", a respectably hep choice. The MTV reporter did what MTV reporters are trained to do: She pretended to understand.

A short time later, this reporter -- and bear in mind that MTV is a music channel -- was heard to ask another (real) journalist, "Who's the Loneliest Monk?"

This may not be a true story, but by God it's a good one.
