An account of the creation of Narnia; one of The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. The Magician's Nephew, in this case, is young Digory Kirke, who with his friend Polly Plummer witnessed the birth of a world is tricked into an experiment with ancient Magic Rings which transport them to The Wood Between the Worlds. From there Digory and Polly visit the blasted remains of Charn, accidentally free the evil Jadis (who would become the evil White Witch of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and witness Aslan's creation of Narnia and its Talking Beasts.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was the first-written and published book of the series. While in terms of story continuity The Magician's Nephew took place first, as originally published it was Book 6. It also answers questions first raised in The Lion..., so it is more "literarily satisfying" to read it afterward. A comparison chronology may be found in the Chronicles of Narnia entry.)
