Legendarily "difficult" late-60s rock group headed by Mayo Thompson. Also sometimes known as Red Crayola. RK are still in existence, and sporadically release new material through Drag City.

Spacemen 3 covered their song "Transparent Radiation" on one of their early EPs. Galaxie 500 and The Pastels have also covered RK tracks.

With the Thirteenth Floor Elevators, they were one of the leading lights of the Houston psychedelic scene in the sixties. Some have called it the longest lived underground band, of all time.

The Red Krayola continue to record, including postrockers like David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke in the collective. I never thought they were that difficult to listen to, but God Bless The Red Krayola and All Who Sail With It is more accessible than The Parable of Arable Land, which contains "Transparent Radiation."

Actually, I was a little disappointed when I first heard the original "Transparent Radiation", since its pretty wedged into "Hurricane Fighter."
