The Rhythm of the Trees is a painting by Carly Johnson. The work was accepted into the 1993 Manchester Academy of Fine Arts Exhibition by a panel of six judges, based on its "color balance, composition, and technical skill". None of the judges knew that Carly, the creator of the painting, was a mere four years old at the time.

The girl's grandfather had submitted a few paintings to the same exhibition of the Manchester Academy. When finding Carly's painting, he had thought of the title, and the picture ended up being submitted as well. While the press in Britain and the world made fun of the incident, the gallery's president defended the choice, arguing that children's art has an "unplotted quality" that is hard for grown-ups to achieve.
