A soon to be former British Trades Union.

WISA or "the Union for Woolwich Staff" was formed in 1979 as the Woolwich Independent Staff Association (hence WISA) and was the trade union for staff employed by the Woolwich Building Society. The Woolwich Building Society became a bank and called itself the Woolwich Group and in October 2000 was taken over by the Barclays Group. So there was not much point in the now re-named WISA continuing as a separate union and on 28th March 2002 the 5,000 odd remaining members voted to amalgamate with UNIFI. By the end of 2002 WISA will be no more.
