A pretentious way University of Virginia students refer to their school. It's a good school, but the students suffer from terminal knowledge of their own greatness, which is reflected in the campus (oh, whoops, I'm sorry, I mean The Grounds) climate. This is the reason most civilized people can't stand the average UVa alum or student -- the attitude that attending UVa makes him or her a better person than you are.

The orange-and-blue car window statics reading "The University" have spawned several parodies. One popular one at VT reads "The University" with "TECHnically speaking" beneath it.
