She stands on the edge of the dock
gazing down at the jagged rocks
hands grip the splintered railing
tears stream down her cheeks
silent fingers trace impartially
across the misty trails
continuing the blue hour
She does not notice the missing minutes

The boy gazes with wonder
at the fiery sunset
rays sparkle in his eyes
he tugs on his dad's shirt tails
"Hurry Daddy! Paint her quick"
the man's hands fly with sure swift strokes
orange light caresses the boy's raised face
warmth replaced by chill moments later
He notices
but she does not
