The love of money is the root of all evil

Many people get this quote wrong and just say "money is the root of all evil", but that changes the meaning of the quote slightly. Money itself is not evil nor can it be. It is an inanimate object! The quote when said properly means if you search for the source of any evil you will find that it is Man's desire for money.

This is just a pet-peeve of mine, it is not meant to rip on anybody that has quoted it wrong.

Interestingly the NKJV and the NIV say it is "a root of all kinds of evil" (the Greek says "rhiza gar pantôn tôn kakôn estin hê philargyria", maybe y'all can tell me if that's a better translation).

But yes, it is apparent that there are other sources of evil. Insanity may be one of them, although if a person is insane they are probably not making conscious choices to be evil. (okay, I Am Not A Psychiatrist...) Pride may be another (maybe the big one, as it's how Lucifer is supposed to have fallen...)

BTW getzburg, Gargamel was after money. He wanted to use the Smurfs in his alchemy to turn lead into gold. The cat Azrael was probably more interested in eating Smurfs. Don't ask me how I know this.

Curiously, this is essentially the same as the the Second Noble Truth of Buddhism. Which, I suppose, only goes to show.

I've only taken one year of koine Greek. I do know that pantôn is usually translated as "every" or "all" so the original is the more obvious choice. "All kinds of..." isn't an impossible translation. It's hard to know whether the word choice was changed because of some technical point in the translation, or to make the wording more "reasonable" by modern standards.
