The sun stained everyone´s skin but left mine

paper white

No amount of exposure burned me scarlet or

turned me brown,  like the natives

no long afternoons, scorching and dry

made a difference

I have been here months,

waiting for a rescue, or an execution

neither seems imminent

Pale I was,

pale I remain

One of the elders wrote me a note,

slipped in with bedclothes

لبعض الناس

كمية من الشمس لا يحدث أي فرق

....
