This is what decay looks like:  

rows of rotting houses on the edge of town

windows boarded up or shattered  

 

yards unattended 

weeds several feet high or 

squares of dirt the color of cardboard boxes

 

The skeletal remains of cars sit in some driveways

tires flat, or wheels on blocks

no evidence of recent movement  

 

This is what decay sounds like:

screeching of birds on silent phone wires 

the hum of trucks on an interstate that bypasses what used to be 

                                                                                                                      a town
