While I sleep the city cries
You won’t find your lover here
She’s moved

away To where every street
Littered with broken glass
Reflects the light of home

And the broken bottles are tuned
To a scale
That makes the wind sing like summer

As a choired voice
In this draughty cathedral
Where the candles stay lit

In constant vigil
Even though I don’t believe
It will make a blind bit of difference

I still trace the stained glass
Back to that chapel on the hill
Where it wouldn't stop raining

It never stops raining
Tainting the windows sepia by streetlight
Bursting the curb side rivers banks

Filling my house
With dreams of estuary towns
Don't wake me up
