This is a well. You might think that there is something to it... But in fact it is just an ordinary well.
In the original
Final Fantasy for the
Nintendo, this is a quote that appears when your party investigates a
well inside a town. It is actually one of the first quotes you are likely to come to, since when you first start the game, you enter a town and come to a well fairly quickly.
I find the quote wonderfully ironic because the Final Fantasy series (and its
offshoots) would become famous amongst gamers for the labyrinthine characters with names and stories drawn from mythology, and its references to other
science fiction stories and other
diverse sources. Even the first game was, for its
time, considerably more complex. It could have been the
game designers making a joke about the complexity of the game they designed.
Or, it could be, that it was indeed, just a well.
