A crime that is commited by simply thinking something forbidden; as no one can really know another's thoughts it usually implies that the person voiced the thought, too. In the free world, the term is often extended to ideas so unpopular among the majority that the proponent is attacked ad hominem for even mentioning them. Argued against vehemently by J.S. Mill in his arguements for freedom of speech. See 1984.
