Tim Hecker is an artist creating ambient music. His recordings consist of
ethereal drones sprinkled with sounds ranging from the abstract to the imminently
recognizable. Hecker's work under his own name has no rhythms, but he released
several minimal techno albums under the pseudonym Jetone. Haunt Me, Haunt
Me, Do it Again (aka Haunt Me) is his first release on Substractif, a sub-label
of Alien8 Recordings. This album is full of beautiful tones created with computers,
acoustic instruments, and unexpected samples-- I noticed something that sounded
like Who Wants to be a Millionaire in the background on one track. Haunt Me
is a powerful work that is best heard in its entirety, without any distractions.
Hecker's newest release on Substractif is My Love is Rotten to the Core,
but I have not heard it, so I'll leave that one to someone who has.
