Tim Hudson (1975- ) is a right-handed pitcher on the Oakland Athletics and one of the most promising young starters in baseball. Although he had been an unheralded prospect in the minor leagues because of his merely average 92 mph fastball and six-foot frame (considered short for a pitcher), Hudson exploded on to the scene in 1999 by going 11-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 21 starts after a late May call-up. Hudson's dominance derives from his excellent control of four major league quality pitches - fastball, slider, changeup, and sinker. By 2001 Hudson had already established himself as one of the top ten pitchers in the game - his 49-17 record and .742 winning percentage in his first three seasons is the best start ever for a pitcher in baseball history.
