To escape a house gone mad

I step out the back, into the night
and am arrested
by the wonder
of a withered cherry blossom
suspended in midair
(by an invisible strand
of spidersilk)

- to escape a world kept cold -
I step out of experience, into the page
and am bemused
by the contrast
of a handful of dry words
suspended in consciousness
(by a tangible tangle
of metaphor)

Nature's poems are almost always
better than man's.
No figurative language can be as nimble

as an arachnid.
