The popular saying is "It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all." (from Alfred Lord Tennyson). However, a careful reading of that doesn't imply that you should always jump at any chance of love. It implies that you will be enriched by knowing what love is, even if you lost.

I'd like to also point at another saying: "If you deliberately set out to be less than you are capable, you'll be unhappy for the rest of your life." -Abraham Maslow. You'll need to decide for yourself what "more" and "less" than you are capable are. However, the trivial answers are not always right.
