The annual film festival held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Occurs in September and fetures a great deal of new releases and international cinema. Getting tickets to popular events is a bit difficult, involving a lottery system, and long lines. Gala events are very flashy but cost extra, so cheapskate festival goers like myself just watch the famous people getting out of their limousines. Probably the most fun is getting rush tickets at the last minute. Gala events for September 2000 included:

  • STARDOM, directed by Denys Arcand, starring Jessica ParĂ©, Dan Aykroyd, Robert Lepage, and Frank Langella.
  • ALMOST FAMOUS, Cameron Crowe's latest film, starring Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Kate Hudson, Jason Lee, and Anna Paquin.
  • BEST IN SHOW, directed by Christopher Guest, starring Parker Posey, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Bob Balaban, and Fred Willard
  • THE CONTENDER, directed by Rod Lurie, starring Gary Oldman, Joan Allen, Jeff Bridges, Christian Slater, and Sam Elliott
  • THE LUZHIN DEFENCE, directed by Marleen Gorris, starring John Turturro and Emily Watson
