Totally feathered up and living on the dub side is the dedication in Jeff Noon's book Vurt.

Being "feathered up" is the expression used in the novel to mean on feathers, or in a fearsomely creative mood, in the same way that people who are high are said to be while on drugs. The feathers are drug hallucinations and virtual reality at the same time.

The dub side refers to reggae music, where dub style itself is signified by vocals with emphasis on the off-beat rather than the downbeat and pumped through an echo machine in order to mimic what people sometimes experience during hallucinations (like the aural ones experienced on inhaling nitrous oxide).

Living on the dub side is therefore living among hallucinations but still remaining sane and functional.

Somehow this has turned into my personal motto. I rather like it.
