Trackpoint

Pointing device found on many laptop computers. Some people prefer these little eraser like protrusions to the TouchPads or Track balls on other lap top systems. While I like this type of device, I must admit that the rubber on the IBM ThinkPad's trackpoint is covered in a sandpaper like substance and I no longer have a tip on my right index finger.

Fun Factoids about Trackpoints

• A trackpoint is one of the lesser pointing devices, being small, annoying and somewhat hard to control.
• It normally rests between the G, H & B keys.
• The trackpoint was invented by Ted Selker for IBM in 1992.
• On a Toshiba 4000CDT, it looks like a rubber cylinder with a domed end which is textured.
• The trackpoint itself, however, is just a piece of plastic connected into the computer.
• Trackpoint covers (the rubber bit) must be replaced every so often as it gets worn down.
• You control a trackpoint with the tip of your finger.
• The alternatives to a trackpoint are trackpads or mice.
