(Also sometimes written: Treaty of Campo Formio)

Peace treaty concluded between France and Austria on October 17, 1797.

In acceding to the treaty, Austria ended its involvement in the War of the First Coalition (1791-1801), ceding the Low Countries and the Ionian Islands to France, and Milan, Mantua and Modena to the Cisalpine Republic. A secret article gave the Austrian emperor Venice and all Venetian territories.

The Treaty of Campo-Formio ended the Italian campaign of Napoleon (1796-1797) and set the stage for his unorthodox Egyptian campaign (1798-1801).
