A tree farm grows trees of all varieties for sale to transplanters, gardeners, landscapers, and, during the holidays, for Christmas tree lots.

For the most part, tree farms are just like a local plant nursery except their vegetation tends to be larger. They require large tracts of land for their products, and each variety is typically grown in one section or forest. They are set up in rows and each year the owner adds new rows to replace the ones that sold last year.

Some tree farms allow families to come in to select and cut their own tree for Christmas, while others clear-cut rows and package them in netting to ship off to tree lots in many mostly urban areas.
