On September 11, 2001 firefighter Stephen Siller ran the 1.7 mile length of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, with all of his gear strapped to his back, in an attempt to join up with his fellow firefighters, the elite Squad Co. 1. All told, he ran a grueling 2.7 miles from the far end of the tunnel to the World Trade Center due to being stuck in traffic and unable to drive.

Stephen Siller, father of five died that day in the towers. To commemorate him, his family has organized the Tunnel to Towers run for September 28, 2003. This 2.7 mile run from Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Ground Zero will retrace Stephen's footsteps on that fateful day to commemorate his bravery.
