The Two-Step is a basic dance step used in many Folk Dances. It can be used as a starting step from which you can learn other steps such as Polka, and Schottische.

The Steps

It's very simple actually, though possibly confusing at first. There are actually Three steps in a Two-Step. Point yourself forwards, allowing yourself enough room to not crash into a wall, with your weight on your left foot. All steps are taken forward, or in the Line of Direction -- of a dance danced in a circle .

  1. (This is the begining of the first Two-Step) Take a step with your right foot.
  2. Take a step with your left foot placing it next to your right foot.
  3. Take a step with your right foot. (The first Two-Step is now finished)
  4. (The second one is starting)Take a step with your left foot.
  5. Take a step with your right foot, placing it next to your left foot.
  6. Take a step with your left foot. (And the second Two-Step is done)
Now you're back onto the foot you started on. You can move on and do another set of Two-Steps, or you can move onto something else like a Step Hop, as would be done in a Schottische.
