Frequently-used TLA for United Auto Workers, a Detroit-based union with 1.3 million members. Their members work making products from beer (Miller) to cosmetics (Revlon) to Planters' honey roasted cocktail peanuts, in addition to cars and trucks. Their ranks also include employees of all levels of government. They were first organized in 1936 at the Kelsey-Hayes Wheel Company which made brakes for Ford cars.

They have just endorsed Al Gore, after hinting in May that they might support Nader.
