Ukrainian contemporary writer whose writings reflect the return of the Ukrainian literary intelligentsia lost during the years of Communist rule. He is a professor of English and Ukrainian Literature at the Kyiv Mohyla Academy and has also taught at Harvard University and Pennsylvania State University. Dibrova also translates Western literature into Ukrainian including Thomas Hardy, Henry David Thoreau, T.S. Eliot, Eugene Ionesco, Samuel Beckett and others. Dibrova's fiction usually takes an ironic approach toward bureaucratic society, examining absurd situations that people are put into by overbearing administrators and governments. His most famous novellas translated into English are Peltse and Pentameron
