The "proper" name for voodoo, the African religion by way of Haiti. In the southern U.S. some call it 'hoodoo'. In Mexico voudon is practiced with christian saints and called santaria. In voudon, the priest draws veves in chalk on the ground which are magical sigils that open the door to a particular loa (god). Offerings to the loa are placed on the ground around the veve. The priest then dances around a bunch and is eventually possessed by the loa, speaks in tongues, etc.
