The night grew tiresome. Like being dressed up and having no place to go. Only my problem was lack of excitement, and stimulating conversation.

Then came him. He drew me from boredom, and into the night. My white knight - in black sweater and gray trousers.

'I'm going for a walk.'
He drew me with his eyes from the party, to the beach.

I trembled cold, in expectation. And we walked. And we talked. Intimate in darkness. Passionate in strangeness. Strangers before this night, yet never again.

We sat down on the sand. The touch of his leg against mine drew me closer. A hand reached through the night to caress mine.

I began to warm to the occasion.
