In Anne McCaffrey's Pern books, a Weyr (pronounced to rhyme with beer) is where dragons and their riders live. With a capital W, a Weyr is the large compound where up to 500 dragons and riders and their assorted support personal (cooks & such) live; with a small w a weyr is the individual living quarters of one dragon and one rider within the larger Weyr.
